Living too long

What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

I believe that our medical community has made it possible to live longer than God intended in many cases. But I’m grateful that today, at 66, I’m healthy and enjoying life. My husband, who is 64, has been suffering on the long road of Alzheimer’s for nearly ten years. Statistically, women have higher rates of dementia than men. This is partly because women live longer, and so experience more of the diseases attributed to old age. As I watch my husband fade away, experiencing almost no life outside of an occasional lunch with friends, I think this is the cruelest affliction a person can suffer. I love life, and want to live as long as possible if I can be productive. If not, I pray that God would take me early.
